  • I think the course is really good because you can log back out and save your spot within the module. The modules seemed very precise to the point with images that associated to the particular topic which made learning interesting.

Food handling gloves are not magic

In food preparation environments gloves can be a double edged sword, both protecting and contaminating, unless they are used correctly.

Gloves can too easily provide a false sense of security to the wearer, we may have observer food handlers wearing gloves handle cooked ready to eat foods, touching their hair or refrigerator door, handling money or raw foods without changing their gloves. Food handling gloves are not designed to protect the wearer they are designed to protect food from cross contamination.

How to use disposable food handling gloves correctly:

·       Wash hands and dry thoroughly before putting gloves on.

·       Change gloves when changing duties ie. moving from touching ready to eat food and raw food.

·       Do not handle money with food gloves

·       Never re-use disposable gloves, when you take them off, throw them away.

Where-ever you can avoid handling food with gloved hands, use tongs, spoons or other utensils instead if practical.
