Food Safety Week 11-17 November 2013

This year the Australian Food Safety Week theme is Shopping Food Safety focusing on ‘Clean, Choose, Chill and Separate’ when selecting food and transporting it home safely.

Food regulations in Australia help maintain food safety up to the time it reaches the consumer. After that, it’s up to us – the consumer.

Each year, there are an estimated 5.4 million cases of food poisoning in Australia.

A few simple actions can cut the likelihood of food poisoning drastically!

The food safety information council has a range of fact sheets on topics to assist us such as :

  • How to handle riskier foods safely

  • Entertaining food safety

  • Food safety on the move

  • Preparing food for the vulnerable

  • Food safety in an emergency

  • Food poisoning bacteria and viruses
